1066- Rabeinu Yosef Hanagid, the son of Shmuel Hanaggid, and son-in-law of Rav Nisan of Kirouan was murdered in an Arab pogrom with another 1500 Jews in Muslim Spain.



January 5, 1895- The defamation ceremony of Alfred Dreyfus took place. Dreyfus was a Jewish French army captain falsely accused by French anti-semites of having sold classified documents to Germany. He was demoted and humiliated by the French Army.  Known today as the Dreyfus Affair, the incident eventually ended with Dreyfus's complete exoneration.
