| 2 | David advises Solomon to keep G-d's commandments and to deal with enemies of the family then dies. Solomon reigns as king in Israel. Adonijah desires Abishag and sends Bathsheba to Solomon on his behalf but he is killed. Joab and Shimei are killed. |
| 3 | Solomon makes an alliance with Egypt and marries the daughter of Pharaoh. Solomon seeks and receives wisdom from G-d. Solomon uses his wisdom to judge between two women and their claims to a child. |
| 4 | The officials of Solomon are listed. Judah and Israel have peace and prosperity during Solomon's reign. Solomon's proverbs and songs are noted. Many nations came to hear the wisdom of Solomon. |
| 5 | Solomon plans to build a temple for G-d and asks Hiram, king of Tyre, for cedar wood from Lebanon. Solomon and Hiram make a covenant. Solomon uses forced labor to cut the wood and stone for the Temple. |
| 6 | 480 years after the Exodus, Solomon builds the first Temple. The Temple dimensions are given. G-d promises He will dwell in Israel. The Temple is described further: it takes seven years to build. |
| 7 | Solomon builds a cedar house for himself, a hall for judgment, and a hall for his wife. A man of the tribe of Naphtali, Hiram, is brought from Tyre and performs bronze work for Solomon's temple. Solomon concludes the construction of the Temple. |
| 8 | Solomon calls all Israel to Jerusalem. The ark of the covenant is brought into the Temple. The Temple is dedicated and the glory of the LORD fills the Temple. Solomon prays and feasts with the people of Israel for fourteen days. |
| 9 | The LORD says that He has put His name on the Temple Mount forever. The LORD promises prosperity to Solomon if he follows G-d and keeps His commandments. Solomon gives twenty cities to King Hiram of Tyre. Solomon employs Canaanites as forced laborers to rebuild cities in Israel. Solomon creates a fleet of ships in the Red Sea. |
| 10 | The Queen of Sheba visits and tests Solomon with difficult questions and is impressed by his wisdom. She and Solomon exchanges gifts. The kingdom of Israel expands becomes very rich and powerful. |
| 11 | Solomon takes many foreign women as wives. Solomon is led astray by his wives and worships false gods. G-d raises up enemies against Solomon. Ahijah prophesies to Jeroboam that he will take ten of the twelve tribes of Israel away from Solomon. Jeroboam flees to Egypt. Solomon dies and his son, Rehoboam, reigns after him. |
| 12 | Rehoboam rejects the counsel of the elders to grant Israel's petition of lighten the workload on them. The ten tribes of Israel split from the three tribes of Judah and makes Jeroboam their king. Jereboam begins false worship to prevent the Israelites from returning to worship in Jerusalem. |
| 13 | A man of G-d speaks against Jeroboam and prophesies the birth of King Josiah of Judah. Jeroboam stretches forth his hand against the man of G-d and his hand withers and later is healed. The man of G-d disobeys G-d and is killed by a lion. Jeroboam performs false worship and makes non-Levites into priests for his false religion. |
| 14 | Jeroboam's wife visits Ahijah the prophet who speaks harshly against Jeroboam and the evil he has done. Jeroboam reigns over Israel for twenty-two years and then dies. Rehoboam and Judah sin greatly before G-d. Egypt takes Judah's treasures. Rehoboam reigns over Judah for seventeen years and then dies. |
| 15 | Abijam reigns over Judah for three years and then dies. He walked in the sins of his father. Asa reigns over Judah for forty-one years. Asa follows G-d and stops the cult prostitution and idolatry that was occuring. Nadab reigns over Israel for two years and then dies. Baasha reigns over Israel for twenty-four years and kills everyone from the house of Jeroboam. Israel fights against Judah. |
| 16 | Baasha dies and Elah rules over Israel for two years. Zimri kills Elah and rules over Israel for seven days and diea. Omri rules rules over Israel for twelve years, does evil, and dies. Omri's son, Ahab, rules over Israel for twenty-two years and does more evil than all the kings before him. |
| 17 | The prophet Elijah declares a three year drought to Ahab. Elijah goes to the brook Cherith and is fed by ravens. Elijah then goes and stays with a widow in Zarephath. The widow's son almost dies but Elijah heals him. |
| 18 | Elijah meet's Ahab's servant, Obadiah. Elijah and prophets of Baal sacrifice on Mt Carmel but fire only consumes Elijah's sacrifice. Elijah has the prophets of Baal killed. Rain falls in Israel as Elijah's prophesied drought ends. |
| 19 | Jezebel threatens Elijah's life and Elijah flees. Elijah wants to die but G-d sends an angel to provide food and water. Elijah travels forty days and nights and arrives at Horeb. At Horeb Elijah experiences a great wind, an earthquake, a fire, and a gentle voice: G-d speaks to him in the gentle voice. Elijah anoints Elisha to be prophet after him. |
| 20 | The king of Aram, Ben-hadad besieges Samaria but Israel defeats them. A year later, Ben-hadad attacks Israel in Aphek but again Israel defeats them. Ahab spares Ben-hadad and makes a covenant with him. A prophet condemns Ahab for sparing Ben-hadad: says Ahab's life will be taken instead of Ben-hadad. |
| 21 | Ahab asks Naboth for his vineyard but Naboth refuses. Jezebel has Naboth killed and gives his vineyard to Ahab. Elijah rebukes Ahab and Ahab repents before G-d. |
| 22 | The LORD puts a deceiving spirits into false prophets who predict victory for Israel in a war against Aram. The prophet Micaiah warns Ahab but he disregards the warning and dies in battle. Ahab's son, Ahaziah, reigns over Israel. Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, reigns for twenty-five years and dies. Jehoshaphat's son, Jehoram, reigns after his father's death for two years. |
