Unless Those Days Were Shortened…

Hi, folks.  Just a quick note.

I came across this article about the days being minutely shorter as a result of the Chile quake:

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/03/02/chile.quake/index.html

From the article:

The massive earthquake that struck Chile on Saturday may have shifted Earth’s axis and created shorter days, scientists at NASA say.

The change is negligible, but permanent: Each day should be 1.26 microseconds shorter, according to preliminary calculations. A microsecond is one-millionth of a second.

A large quake shifts massive amounts of rock and alters the distribution of mass on the planet.

When that distribution changes, it changes the rate at which the planet rotates. And the rotation rate determines the length of a day.

This brought to mind the passage in Mark:

Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.  (Mark 13:20)

I do believe there is a bigger picture in terms of the “shortening of those days” but it is interesting to see a possible (minute) connection in this quake.

I was walking down a hallway in a medical building and overheard CNN breaking this story, that the days were now shorter. This Scripture came to mind immediately! Although, I know that the shortening of days refers to something far bigger, as you mentioned, but I thought it was very interesting.
