I recently saw this video on You Tube entitled DID JESUS GIVE US THE NAME OF THE ANTICHRIST?

The author of the video proposes that Messiah Yeshua gave us a warning regarding the name of the antichrist in Luke 10:18. He suggests that a Hebrew translation of the passage would essentially read “I beheld Satan as lightning from heaven [Hebrew: barak obamah]“. After watching the video I became curious and decided to investigate the matter for myself.

Luke 10:18

NASB 

And He said to them, “I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.

and he said to them, `I was beholding the Adversary, as lightning from the heaven having fallen;

KJV

And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

The actual Greek is

Εἶπε δε αυτοις εθεωρουν τον Σαταναν ως αστραπην εκ του ουρανου πεσοντα

Transliterated Greek:

Eipe de autois etheoroun ton Satanan os astrapun ek ton ouranon pesouta

The Hebrew equivalent (Strong’s #’s underneath)

Vayomer, ki    shakad Satan  naphal ke barak  min    hashamayim
 [559]  [3588] [8245] [7854] [5307]    [1299] [4480]  [8064]

 
The video author substituted “the heights” for heaven so that becomes:

Vayomer,   ki    shakad Satan  naphal ke barak  min   ha bamahti
  [559]  [3588]  [8245] [7854] [5307]   [1299] [4480]    [1116]

Bamahti being the plural form of “heights” used in the Isaiah 14 passage the video author references. 
 
The vav  [vahv] is pronounced in vowel form as either OH (like toe) or OO (like shoe).  That letter is used as a conjunction meaning “and” in most cases.  There is an excellent (but highly technical) article on this Hebrew letter entitled

In short, barak uvamah is not Hebrew for “lightning fall from heaven”.  Barak ubamah is most directly translated as “lightning and a height”… singular height.  Close (disturbingly close)… but no cigar.

Antichrist in Scripture

There is another matter to consider. Satan is the fallen angelic spirit being. Antichrist is only mentioned in 4 passages of Scripture:

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour.  (1 John 2:18)

Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.  (1 John 2:22)

and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.  (1 John 4:3)

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.  (2 John 1:7)

From these passages we can see that an antichrist [anti-messiah] is anyone who denies that Yeshua is the Messiah.  This includes those who deny He came in the flesh (e.g. the Gnostics who considered all flesh to be inherently evil). This also includes your unbelieving neighbor, Bob, and your unbelieving coworker, Joe. They qualify as “antichrist” when they deny that Yeshua is the Messiah.

John notes that many antichrists had appeared in his day.  In 2 John 1:7 says “the deceiver and the antichrist”.  This can be considered to be a singular group much like “the church” is a singular group composed of many individuals.  It might also imply a single individual such as Lucifer/Satan.  I do not know.

May we be considered to be noble-minded like the Jews in Berea who tested everything against Scripture (Acts 17:10-11).  “Test all things.  Hold fast what is good.” (1 Thes 5:21 NKJV)
