1774- The Jews of Algeria escape an attack by the Spanish army. Tradition has it that flames came out of the graves of the great Rabbis Isaac ben Sheshet and Solomon ben Simon Duran and contributed to the Spanish defeat. A Purim of Tammuz was established to commemorate this miracle.
July 11, 1927- A major 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Jerusalem. The Kaf Hachaim notes (576:26) that while many Arabs died, miraculously no Jews were hurt.
